PhoenixFD作为一款3ds Max流体仿真插件，Phoenix Fluid Dynamics是Chaos Software发布的软件产品，它可以非常棒的模拟烟、火、雾等流体。该插件很好的结合了具有突出渲染能力的基于网格的流体仿真。此外，对于一些均布流体而言，Phoenix FD能够对整个流体阵列进行处理，例如，压力衰减、热辐射冷却以及质量-温度互依赖性（mass-temperature dependence）。
流体的最本质特点就是不断变形，例如液体、气体、烟、雾等。Phoenix FD支持你在3ds Max中模拟这些流体。在Phoenix FD中，仿真的流体被存放在立方体或者网格中，并且每个最小单元格都包含该位置上的流体属性。这些属性包括温度、质量和速度。在仿真中，随着时间的推移，Phoenix将会在每个单元格之间传递内容。此外，由于物理规则的改变，Phoenix还会改变单元格的属性。最后，将仿真的结果用于渲染。
