About the Movie
Based on the Pulitzer Prize® and Tony Award® winning play by August Wilson, Fences explores the evolving African-American experience and examines race relations, among other themes. For the movie, Denzel Washington directs Wilson s own screen adaptation about a retired baseball player named Troy Maxson now working as a Pittsburgh garbage man, who s regretful about how his life turned out. Fences stars Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, both reprising their Tony Award®-winning roles from the Tony®-winning Best Revival of a Play Broadway production from 2010. Also starring Mykelti Williamson, the movie opens nationwide on December 25.
About the Music
The subtle nuances of composer Marcelo Zarvos style are evidenced in his recent scores for Golden Globe®-winning The Affair and Ray Donovan. Zarvos trademark sound includes a seamless blend of classical, orchestral, rock, electronic and various ethnic elements that together create uniquely affecting and emotionally charged music for film and TV. Twice nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards®, his television work includes Too Big to Fail, The Big C, Extant and the HBO movie Phil Spector. Zarvos latest movie projects include an adaptation of the John le Carré novel Our Kind of Traitor, Barry Levinson directed Rock the Kasbah, The Choice and Cell.
The soundtrack also includes songs written by Sam Cooke, Sister Mary Nelson, Sammy Cahn and James Cleveland performed by the stars of the movie Denzel Washington, Viola Davis and Mykelti Williamson along with songs performed by Dinah Washington, Little Jimmy Scott and Reverend James Cleveland.
